Washington DC is a limited edition fine art print based on Ed Fairburn’s 2025 original, created using pigment ink on an antique late 1800s map of the United States capital. The composition showcases his renowned fusion of portraiture and cartography, allowing the streets, grids, and landmarks of Washington DC to form the underlying structure of the figure.

This work is part of Fairburn’s ongoing series that transforms paper maps from his collection, elevating their character, beauty, and function. The base map for Washington DC was produced in the late 1800s and records the major landmarks around the capital. Fairburn was drawn to the city’s distinctive layout and diamond-like patterns, which provided an ideal organic framework for his meticulous line work and layered mark making.
